Our Hooley Residents Association committee member and Treasurer, Mr Roger Haines, has now hung up his angle grinder and is no longer recycling metal to raise funds for our community.
Over the last five or six years, Roger has been taking in old washing machines, bicycles, metal shelving, pipes and ovens etc. (in fact, you name it, if it was metal, Roger took it in!!) and stripped them all down before taking all of the scrap metal to Elliott Metals in Horley and exchanging it for several thousands of pounds for our community!
All of his efforts have helped us to put on the Hooley Queen’s Platinum Jubilee street party, buy a community defibrillator and get new community notice boards, to name but a few things which, have been done recently in our village.
In appreciation for what he has done, Roger received a lovely poem, written by local resident Leanne Price, and a small ‘thank you’ party at Nelson’s on Saturday 27th January.
A huge thank you from everybody in Hooley Roger!
NOTE: PLEASE DO NOT DEPOSIT ANY MORE METAL OBJECTS WITH ROGER!!
