Fly-Tipping, Maple Way Recycling Centre

Following numerous incidents of fly-tipping at the Maple Way Recycling Centre and a suggestion, it may be closed in the future, Councillor Mus Tarry has raised the issue with the Head of Service at Reigate & Banstead Council. Below is his email to your Hooley Residents Association.

Please note: a ‘Bring’ Site is where local residents bring their recycling items to a specific point (a Recycling Centre) in their community area

Hi Jerry

As promised, I have shared your concerns with the Team and the Head of Service is aware.

She has confirmed that this site will be closed along with all other Bring Sites within the borough by the end of March 2027.  This aligns with all properties within the borough having access to the full recycling service.  Out of 64,000 households, around 4000 are still to receive the full service.

We have a number of issues with residents and/or non-residents depositing non recycling material at these sites, which is effectively fly-tipping, the Maple Way site is on our radar but unfortunately is not the worst we are dealing with.

We will add this site to the priority list of removal, but this will require all local residents having access to the full recycling service, from their individual properties, before we are able to decommission it. There are still some properties on the Brighton Road in Hooley that do not have the full service yet, but will have within the next few months.

Please bear with us but be assured that the problem will be resolved in the near future.

Anyone witnessing fly-tipping is encouraged to report it on our website as this assists in building the full picture of the issue and to enable us to issue a Fixed Penalty Notice, legislation requires those who report it, should be prepared to provide evidence.  Which unfortunately usually put people off.

Mr Hillsley’s comment, confirms the number of reports we have received through the report it function on our website.

Many thanks

Mus
