Remembrance Poppies and Tommy’s

As you will have hopefully noticed, the Hooley Residents Association purchased and affixed a number of large Poppy and Tommy lamp post signs along both sides of the A23 Brighton Road and along Star Lane to remember those who, have lost their lives in conflicts around the world and those who have been killed as a result of terrorism. Additionally, St Margarets Church affixed hand knitted Poppies around the perimeter fence at the entrance to the church.

Well, it is extremely sad to have to report, a large number of these lamp post signs and hand knitted Poppies have been removed and have gone missing, presumably stolen? Should you happen to see anyone attempting to remove any of these Poppies or Tommy’s which, are mostly affixed tightly with cable ties (so, a pair of snips or similar would be required to remove them), please contact the Police by dialling 101 and report what you have seen. This is not an emergency so, please dial 101 and NOT 999. Thank you.

  1. We have now collected in our lamp post Poppies and Tommy’s for this year and sadly, three Poppies and six Tommy’s have gone missing!

Next year, we will undoubtedly have to take a ladder and get our Poppy and Tommy signs high up on the lamp posts, in an attempt to prevent them going missing.
